The National Recreation and Park Association, along with the City of Dunedin has designated July as National Park and Recreation Month. This month is dedicated to recognizing the significant roles that parks and recreation play in creating stronger, more vibrant, and resilient communities nationwide. The theme for this year is “Where You Belong,” emphasizing how parks and recreation foster a sense of belonging within our communities, by offering inclusive programs, essential services for people of all ages and abilities, and safe, accessible spaces for building connections. Let’s come together and celebrate the ways in which local parks and recreation fully embody the essence of belonging.

Dunedin Parks & Recreation provides various programs and opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities. Engaging in recreational activities and visiting local parks can improve your physical, mental, and social well-being.

We also take this time to celebrate and honor all park and recreation professionals, including our dedicated City of Dunedin Parks & Recreation Department staff, who work tirelessly to provide dynamic and valuable services to the community, making a positive impact on the lives of its members each day. The Parks & Recreation Department offers diverse opportunities to play, restore, and explore, committing each day to be the ultimate resource to enrich lives, protect nature, and strengthen the fabric of our community.

Dunedin Parks & Recreation is leading initiatives and providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to pursue healthier lifestyles, promote and understand nature and environmental resilience, and bring the community closer through various programs and services. The department provides opportunities for young people to develop and contribute to society, creates experiences for older members of our community, and brings people together to experience a sense of community. Staff and hundreds of volunteers dedicate their services to providing clean and safe parks, youth and adult activities, health and nutrition programs, as well as green space and trails.

With summer already here, now is the perfect time to explore the many great things Dunedin offers including local parks, playgrounds, facilities, recreational programs, and special events. Dunedin’s recreation centers include the Dunedin Community Center, MLK, Jr. Recreation Center (with many teen programs), and the Hale Senior Activity Center, all of which offer a wide range of programs and classes to keep you physically, mentally, and socially active. Popular summer programs include swim lessons, water fitness, summer camps, group exercise classes, music and dance, theater, archery, golf, tennis, pickleball, martial arts, senior luncheons, teen nights, socials, and special events. Dunedin also boasts 29 parks where families can gather, play, enjoy the playgrounds, and have picnics. If you love the water, go boating or fishing at the Dunedin Marina or make a splash at Highlander Pool and the Kiwanis Sprayground. Or if you’re into golf, visit the driving range at Stirling Park or take a lesson from our Golf Pro.
