This week work commenced on the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Skinner Completes Streets Improvement Project. The outside (right) westbound lane is closed on SR 580 (Skinner Boulevard) from the Pinellas Trail to east of Highland Avenue/Martin Luther King, to allow for sidewalk work to on the north side of Skinner. There will be lane closures through early 2025.The project timeline has been established through Winter/Spring 2026.
FDOT has contracted with deMoya Highway Infrastructure LLC to construct a Complete Streets project to enhance safety and improve traffic on SR 580/Skinner Boulevard from Main Street/Bass Boulevard to Broadway. The project will include reducing travel lanes, two roundabouts, and a multipurpose path connecting to the Pinellas Trail to make travel safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, and to stimulate economic development north of Downtown. Comprehensive engineering and forecasting have been done to evaluate the current and future traffic trips on this segment of Skinner Blvd. For full project details, information from community engagement town hall meetings and timeline: https://dunedin-fl.civilspace.io/en/projects/fdot-skinner-boulevard-improvement-project
