The Highlander Pool has served our community well for the past four decades as a hub for water education, safety & wellness, the Dunedin High School swim team, as well as events and gatherings. However, this beloved facility has exceeded its useful life and requires replacement.
The Parks & Recreation Department is currently working with Borelli + Partners, Inc. and Martin Aquatic Design and Engineering to design a new aquatic complex. In 2023, the Dunedin City Commission approved an innovative master plan with a new design based on community surveys and input. It will include the amenities most requested by the community, including a 25m x 25yd competition pool with two diving boards, a zero-depth entry activity pool, two slides, a lazy river, a therapy pool, mechanical and filtration systems, picnic and shaded seating areas, concessions, restrooms, and a multipurpose room available for rentals. This master plan also incorporates the adjacent Kiwanis Sprayground. The lazy river will be constructed later, as funding becomes available.
The design is expected to be completed by late spring along with green certification through Florida Green Building Coalition. If approved, the project will go out to bid for construction, with a grand opening anticipated in fall 2026.
We are excited about the progress of this project and look forward to bringing the aquatic complex to our community!
